Chinese Delegation Visits Kentucky to Promote Trade

The Kentucky
World Trade Center (KWTC) helped host a dinner reception for a visiting Chinese delegation consisting of over 70 CEO’s, presidents and chairmen of the most prominent and largest companies in China. Also in attendance were the Vice Premier of China, the Minister of Commerce, KWTC Chair/CEO, Martha Layne Collins, and other staff members of the KWTC. |

Greek Delegation Builds New Relationships in Kentucky

Connecting Kentucky with the rest of the world, the Kentucky World Trade Center greeted 19 delegates from Katerini, Greece November 12-19. The KWTC arranged matchmaking and informational meetings with 14 businesses around the Commonwealth. This delegation was invited and hosted by Georgetown College and Greece-Kentucky Partnerships, and led by the Chamber of Commerce in Pieria, Greece.

Malaysia – Overlooked Opportunities for U.S. Exporters

Malaysia celebrated Merdeka – Independence from Britain 50 years ago – in September, while I was in Kuala Lumpur (KL). In a half-century, Malaysia has used its position as an east-west crossroad to transform its economy. KL built the Petronas Towers, for a time the world’s tallest buildings, not as a boast but as an expression of authentic modernity and emergence as a global commercial center. Mid-American businesses, however, have overlooked Malaysia as a substantial opportunity.

Immigration Law Update: Employment Eligibility Verification Procedures

In recent months there have been two major changes in the employment eligibility verification procedures required of employers. The first change was the August 15, 2007, issuance of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security final rule regarding the appropriate response by an employer to a Social Security “No-Match” letter. A “No-Match” letter refers to the letter notifying an employer that the name and social security number reported on its W-2 form for an employee do not match the SSA’s records.

This seminar will train you on the rules of origin for all major U.S. Free Trade Agreements, including NAFTA. You will also learn how to legally document your activity and properly fill out the Certificate of Origin. The seminar will cover real-life case studies and common compliance errors.

Michael “Ted” Murphy, a partner at Baker & McKenzie, and Kevin Sullivan, an associate at Baker & McKenzie, will share their expertise on Free Trade Agreements.
