The world comes to Kentucky on November 5
Dozens of international trade officials and business leaders will be on hand Nov. 5 for World Trade Day 2008, a program organized by the Kentucky World Trade Center (KWTC).
The event comes as the KWTC observes its 20th anniversary as a membership organization focusing on taking Kentucky to the world. A leading provider of trade services, the center has offices in Lexington and Louisville to help the Commonwealth’s businesses export their products and services to customers worldwide.
This year’s World Trade Day will feature Ron Somers, president of the U.S.-India Business Council. The council works to strengthen commercial ties and deepen two-way trade between the nations and partners with leading industry and trade associations in Indian to serve as a direct link between business and government leaders. Somers will present A Case for Deeper U.S.-India Ties: Challenges and Opportunities during the gala dinner.

Last week, a delegation visited Lexington on an in-bound trade mission from Russia. The trip was made possible through a grant from OpenWorld, a program that strives to increase understanding and cooperation between the United States and leaders of Eurasia and the Baltic States. KWTC partnered with KCTCS (Kentucky Community and Technical College System) to host the delegation.
During their visit, the group met with representatives of Commerce Lexington, Greater Louisville Inc, and visited several companies including Toyota and Lexmark. They also had the opportunity to meet Mayor Jim Newberry of Lexington and tour several areas of the Lexington-Fayette government center.

The Russian delegation spends time at the KWTC. From left:
